Children’s food and beverage products are being designed with healthier, clean label ingredients and functional benefits.
Beech-Nut Nutrition Co. expanded its portfolio with Organic Fruit & Yogurt Jars with Prebiotics and Smoothies with Prebiotics, two lines of prebiotic-focused offerings featuring whole milk yogurt and a full serving of fruit. The company also launched Jammin’ Waffles, a line of toasted mini waffles with fruit filling, and Fruti Bites with Hidden Veggies, a range of soft gluten-free fruit chews.
Plant-based dairy manufacturer Mooala has launched its Bananamilk in a new convenience-focused format. Mooala’s milk alternative aims to deliver a combination of taste, convenience and health benefits in a single-serve variety. The product merges the company’s existing banana milk recipe of organic bananas, sunflower seeds, cinnamon and filtered water with an 8-oz container that can serve as an easy lunchbox inclusion, a standalone snack or on-the-go drink. Flavors include vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.
“We wanted families to have a guilt-free option for kids to enjoy; these are delicious and sneakily nutritious, with just a fraction of the sugar of other flavored milks,” said Jeff Richards, chief executive officer of Mooala.
Baby nutrition brand Once Upon A Farm has introduced Soft-Baked Bars for Kids. The bars feature fruits and vegetables, whole grain oats and no-added sugar and offer an oven-baked cookie taste, according to the company, with flavors like apple and oat, chocolate oat, mixed berry and banana chocolate chip.
“These delicious baked bars taste like they came fresh out of the oven and are packed with whole grain oats, fruit, veggies, and fats like coconut oil to fuel your whole family throughout the day,” said Cassandra Curtis, founder and chief innovation officer at Once Upon a Farm.
Ready debuted Kids Whole Grain Protein Bars featuring 6 grams of protein, 8 grams of whole grains and 20% less sugar than comparable whole grain snack bars, according to the company. The functional snack line includes flavors like chocolate chip, chocolate brownie, iced oatmeal cookie and chocolate peanut.
Mott’s, a Keurig Dr Pepper brand, has introduced a sports drink alternative for children with active lifestyles. Mott’s Active hydrating juice beverage is formulated with a blend of apple juice, coconut water and added electrolytes. The product, available in berry and watermelon flavors, is also free from added sugars and artificial flavors.
“Our vision for Mott’s Active is to be a part of the journey of parents and kids as they engage in a variety of sports and playtime occasions, with a product that delivers a refreshing source of hydration from a brand they trust,” said Derek Dabrowski, vice president and general manager at KDP.
Mars, Inc. is adding to its Kind Snacks bar line with the launch of new Kind Kids bars in two varieties: chocolate chip and blueberry muffin. The soft-baked bars are made with whole grain oats, feature 5 grams of protein per bar, are gluten-free and have no artificial flavors or colors, according to the company.
Teton Waters Ranch, a maker of grass-fed beef products, has added a new line of children’s food. Teton Taste Buds incorporates a blend of vegetables, such as mushrooms, carrots, butternut squash, and clean label beef free from antibiotics, added hormones, nitrates and nitrites. The products are designed to increase children’s vegetable intake in a formulation with lower amounts of sodium, saturated fat, cholesterol and calories.
“By providing a healthier twist to classic favorites that kids know and love, we can give parents peace of mind that they are feeding their families better, without a fight at dinnertime,” said Kevin Pallaoro, president of Teton Waters Ranch.
Califia Farms has unveiled Complete Kids, a plant-based milk formulated from a blend of peas, chickpeas and fava beans. The product contains prebiotics, 8 grams of protein, 50 mg of DHA omega-3 and 55 mg of choline per serving.
Calbee America, Inc. brand Harvest Snaps released Harvest Snaps Kids Crispy Fruit Snacks, a clean label snack line for children. Featuring freeze or vacuum dried 100% whole fruit, the products are formulated free from added sugars and artificial flavors and preservatives. Flavors include apple, banana, grape and strawberry.
