OAK BROOK, ILL. — From Turkey to Taiwan, McDonald’s Corp. serves approximately 69 million people around the world every day, with restaurants in more than 100 countries.
The Oak Brook-based fast-food chain began its international expansion in 1967 with the opening of restaurants in Canada and Puerto Rico. Next year, McDonald’s plans to enter its 120th market with a restaurant opening in Kazakhstan.
While many of the company’s overseas restaurants offer such signature items as the Big Mac and Chicken McNuggets, McDonald’s menus in global markets feature plenty of innovation to suit local tastes. In Canada, for example, customers may order a poutine, a regional specialty consisting of gravy and cheese-curd smothered fries.
