CERRITOS, CALIF. — T. Hasegawa USA Inc. has introduced an orange juice replacer that may enhance the flavor profile of oranges while minimizing the amount of traditional orange juice needed in a product formula. T. Hasegawa said its orange juice replacer was developed to aid beverage manufacturers impacted by Huanglongbing (HLB) or citrus greening.
Citrus greening is a bacterial disease that destroys citrus trees, limits production of fruit or may produce fruit that is bitter and unusable for juice production.
The company said its orange juice replacer comes in powdered form, liquid form and comes in not from concentrate and from concentrate varieties.
The ingredient may be used in such applications as ready-to-mix beverages, ready-to-drink beverages, beverage syrups, juices and juice blends, frozen drinks among others.
“While our technologies optimize the flavor profile and provide a consistently great taste, they also provide price stability,” said Toshifumi Nozawa, associate director of beverage technology at T. Hasegawa USA Inc. “Orange juice replacer is the latest in our line of flavor enhancers that are designed to reduce reliance on raw materials. Manufacturers can maintain the high quality of their beverage products while ensuring that supply shortages and cost fluctuations will not disrupt production or increase prices with consumers.”
