OAKLAND, CALIF. — Voyage Foods is opening a 284,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Mason, Ohio, that will have the capacity to make 10,000 metric tons of cocoa-free chocolate annually, according to the company. The company said it will maintain its headquarters and a manufacturing site in Oakland, Calif.
The Ohio plant, which is expected to be operational by early 2025, will enable the company to manufacture its cocoa-free chocolate, nut-free-spreads and bean-free coffee plant-based products. The company formulates its product from plant-based and upcycled ingredients.
Cargill and Voyage Foods inked a deal in April to produce alternatives to cocoa-based products and nut spreads without using cocoa, peanuts and hazelnuts. Through the partnership, Cargill is acting as the company’s global distributor. The cocoa-free range includes items formulated from a blend of grape seeds, sunflower protein flour, palm oil and shea kernel oil, that may be used in such applications as bakery, ice cream and confectionery.
Voyage Foods, founded in 2021, has raised more than $94 million from investors to date.
“With this new facility, Voyage is maturing from a startup food technology company to a large-scale manufacturer with the ability to deliver value across the entire ecosystem to our people, partners, and the planet,” said Adam Maxwell, chief executive officer and founder of Voyage Foods. “We feel very lucky to establish roots in Mason and continue Voyage’s story here.”Enjoying this content?
