KANSAS CITY — Food manufacturers are utilizing convenient formats, diet-inclusive formulations and protein-rich ingredients to drive consumer spending in the breakfast category.

General Mills, Inc. frozen snack brand Totino’s launched its first entry in the frozen breakfast category with a line of snack bites. The product is ready to serve after two minutes of microwaving, with flavors such as: pork shoulder bacon and cheese scramble,  sausage and cheese scramble,  and cheesy chorizo scramble.

“Totino’s is all about making every day epic and we’re bringing everything fans love about us to the morning,” said Taylor Roseberry, brand experience manager of Totino’s. “These bite-size pockets are the perfect poppable addition to breakfast — no utensils required.”

WK Kellogg Co expanded its cereal portfolio with Eat Your Mouth Off, a line of vegan offerings. The cereal contains 22 grams of plant-based protein, zero grams of sugar and 2 grams of net carbohydrates or less per serving. Flavors include fruity, with toasted fruity puffs, and chocolate, which consists of dark cocoa puffs.

Baking manufacturers Premier Nutrition Co., LLC and De Wafelbakkers have added to the Premier Protein brand with a selection of protein-filled pancake and waffle mixes. Both products come in buttermilk and original varieties, and each contains 15 grams of protein per serving.
