KANSAS CITY — Foodservice chains are continuing to fuel summer menu innovations with a slew of new offerings.

Panera Bread is expanding its breakfast lineup with three new sandwiches and several cinnamon roll-based products. Sandwich additions include the Bacon Double Take, featuring twice the amount of bacon used in traditional Panera breakfast items and two types of cheese, and the Ham, Egg & Cheese sandwich for protein-focused consumers. The company is also adding the Steak & Wake sandwich for a limited time, which combines thin-sliced steak on top of artisan ciabatta bread.

Panera’s breakfast menu also is getting an infusion of sweet flavors with CinnaScrambles. The products mix classic breakfast sandwich ingredients with a warmed cinnamon roll, according to the company. Offerings include the traditional CinnaScramble with scrambled eggs and American cheese and the Sausage CinnaScramble with an added sausage patty.

“We're thrilled to introduce exciting new breakfast items to our bakery-cafes nationwide as part of our ongoing menu transformation,” said Alicia Mowder, senior vice president of product strategy and insights for Panera Bread. “These delicious offerings will feature sweet, savory and protein-packed options to kickstart your day, including options that feature our signature cinnamon rolls.”

Massachusetts-based Dunkin’ is debuting a new series of spicy menu items in collaboration with Mike’s Hot Honey. The company’s Hot Honey Bacon Sandwich includes hot honey bacon, egg, white cheddar cheese and a brioche bun topped with Mike’s Hot Honey sauce. Additionally, Dunkin’ is launching Hot Honey Bacon Wake-Up Wraps and Hot Honey Snackin’ Bacon.

Apart from sandwiches, the foodservice brand also is adding new beverages and a donut inspired by summer flavors. Items range from S’mores Cold Brew and the returning S’mores Donut to Tornado Twist SPARKD’ Energy, an iced energy drink that blends raspberry, strawberry, peach and lychee flavors.

“As summer heats up, we’re excited to introduce these innovative flavors to our guests,” said Beth Turenne, vice president of category management at Dunkin’. “Whether you’re cooling down with S’mores Cold Brew, turning up the heat with our Hot Honey Breakfast Sandwich, or fueling up with a $3 Tornado Twist SPARKD’ Energy, we’re delivering the beloved tastes of summer that our customers crave.”
